Is Metacognition a Better predictor than IQ for Academic Achievement?

A few days ago, I came across this article making some wild claims about the predictive power of "metacognition". From a quick glance, their number seemed wildly off, so I decided to dig deeper, and the more I dug, the worse it got. Given that their paper has been cited almost 150 times, I decided to compile my findings and make them publicly available.
